LTM are pleased to announce a comprehensive programme of CD reissues by Biting Tongues, the post-punk avant-funkers from Manchester who recorded for cult labels including Factory, New Hormones and Cut Deep.

The first three CDs, due for release in September 2003, include Compressed (LTMCD 2373), their collected works for Factory between 1985 and 1987, Recharge (LTMD 2376), the dance/electronica album recorded in 1988 by Graham Massey in tandem with Quadrastate by 808 State, and After The Click (LTMCD 2371) a comprehensive career overview which draws from ail phases of the Tongues' career between 1980 and 1989, and includes several cuts which will not be released on any other CD.

Stand-out tracks on After The Click include Heart Disease (1981), Compressor (1987), Double Gold St Paul (1989), and the live cut Everywhere But Here, never studio recorded but here performed live at The Venue in April 1983.

One of Manchester's more adventurous groups, the band combined angular funk rhythms with musique concrete, and backed live performance with films and slides. An audiovisual laboratory, if you will. The Tongues went on to record five albums, including Don't Heal (1981), Live It (1981), Libreville (1982), Feverhouse (1985) and Recharge (1989). For an 80s band they clearly had a lot of 90s musical language going on: Northern industrial psychedelia at its uncompromising best.

Live It!: On May 29th 2003 the original Biting Tongues line-up will play live at the ICA in London, comprising Ken Hollings, Colin Seddon, Howard Walmsley, Eddie Sherwood and Graham Massey. Also on the ICA bill are Crispy Ambulance, with whom the Tongues shared fuzz boxes and a basement studio. The last time the two bands shared a bill was at - karma! - the ICA on New Year's Day 1981.
